NASA fears China may outstrip them in landing a man on the moon

The United States is concerned about the success of China's space program and intends to make every effort to be the first to land its astronauts on the moon. This was stated by the head of NASA Bill Nelson.

According to him, the PRC's space program is becoming "more and more capable of landing" a man on the moon, and, moreover, much earlier than originally expected, writes TASS. Nelson has pledged to act "as aggressively as possible given security and technical capabilities" to bypass his Chinese counterparts.

The head of NASA called China's space program intensive and good. “This has happened in the last few years, we have seen that they have achieved a number of achievements,” he said, adding that the United States wants to be the first to return to the moon after more than half a century.

Earlier, Nelson announced changes in the schedule for the return of the Americans to the moon. The first manned flight under the Artemis program into the orbit of the moon will take place no earlier than May 2024, and the landing of a man on the moon will be possible no earlier than 2025. The delay was caused, among other things, by an attempt by Blue Origin to challenge NASA's award of a contract for SpaceX's lunar landing module.
