The United States intends to donate over 1.2 billion doses of coronavirus vaccines to other countries by the end of 2022, said US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
“By the end of next year, we will have donated over 1.2 billion doses of vaccine to the world,” said Blinken, who is visiting Jakarta. His speech was broadcast by the US State Department.
The head of American diplomacy stressed that out of about 300 million doses of "safe vaccines" that the United States has already donated to the world, about a third were sent to the countries of the Indo-Pacific region.
“We have also already donated over $ 2.8 billion in additional life-saving aid to the region. This includes 77 million in aid to Indonesia, including the purchase of personal protective equipment and medical oxygen for hospitals,” Blinken said.
The United States is the world's largest coronavirus vaccine donor. In early December, President Joe Biden's administration announced that, in addition to the 275 million doses of vaccines already supplied to other countries, the United States is pledging to donate an additional 200 million doses over the next three months.
