A new batch of the drug for packaging Sputnik V arrived in Serbia
A significant batch of the Sputnik V vaccine packaged in Serbia arrived from Russia on Monday, the Tanyug news agency reported.
The Minister for Innovation and Technological Development of Serbia, Nenad Popovic, who is also the co-chairman of the intergovernmental mission on cooperation between the two countries, said yesterday from Moscow that the matter concerns the amount of a substance (drug) sufficient to produce over 250 thousand doses of the first component.
According to him, in ten days, according to the Russian side, a drug for the production of the second component of the vaccine should be delivered to Serbia. The Torlak Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Serums is expected to have about 550,000 doses of the first and second components of the vaccine in the next two weeks.
"The plane with the drug from Russia, delivered from the Generium enterprise in the Vladimir region, landed at the Nikola Tesla airport at about 14:00," the agency briefly reported.
The drug will be delivered to the Torlak Institute in Belgrade. As Popovich said earlier, the first tens of thousands of vaccines have already been produced there, the samples have been sent for examination to Russia and approval is pending.
According to the Serbian minister, 18 samples from each batch will be sent to the Gamaleya Institute in the Russian Federation for control and only after approval they will be used to immunize the population. The expected verification time is three weeks.
The start of the first phase of production - packaging - of the Sputnik V vaccine in Belgrade was given by the presidents of Serbia Alexander Vucic and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The Serbian authorities expect the deployment of a full cycle of production of the means of immunization by the end of the year.
