The threat of the transformation of outer space into a battle arena is growing. This was stated by the deputy head of the Russian delegation to the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation at the UN office and other international organizations in Geneva, Andrei Belousov.

According to him, confrontation in space can lead to catastrophic consequences for all of humanity. And this threat has only grown lately.

Belousov pointed out that "a number of states are already implementing a course of placing weapons in space, increasing the potential for forceful impact on space objects and life support infrastructure on Earth, and also planning to conduct hostilities in outer space." In this regard, the urgency of the task of preventing an arms race in outer space is only growing, the diplomat emphasized.

It is worth noting that Moscow has repeatedly called for negotiations to ban weapons in outer space. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, this will make it possible to use outer space for creative purposes, for the benefit of all mankind. Constructive cooperation in the space sector should remain among the key areas of the unifying international agenda, the Russian minister is confident.
